Making the Connection
As audio broadcasting evolves, one thing remains unchanged: there needs to be someone at the other end listening, not just hearing — listening. That requires a connection, and not just a technical one.
This edition brings connection centerstage.
In the cover story, ARN’s Michael Stephenson explains how the Australian broadcaster is expanding its connection with its audience. We hear about how DTS Autostage is helping broadcasters in Ireland’s DAB+ trials connect better with their audiences through real-time data collection; discover how Dutch broadcaster NPO creates content that resonates with its multicultural youth audience; get serious about radio’s dashboard fight; discover how visual esports make for great radio; investigate why technicians are making microphones to recognize humans; learn how one Malawian broadcaster is trying something few would dare to; get inspired by broadcasters connecting with audiences through live events; and hear about a podcast platform focused on youth-generated storytelling.
Finally, this edition was created in memory of longtime Zimbabwe-based collaborator John Masuku, who passed away on Feb. 13, World Radio Day. He embodied radio’s passion for connection. We will miss him.
